Food and Nutrition

Foods to be taken
  • Plenty of fruit and vegetables
  • Plenty of starchy carbohydrates. Examples include bread, rice, cereals, pasta, potatoes, chapattis and plantain. Choose wholegrain varieties when possible
  • Some milk and dairy products. Choose low-fat dairy products
  • Some meat, fish, eggs and alternatives such as beans and pulses
  • Unsaturated fats found in vegetable oils, such as sunflower, rapeseed and olive oil, avocados, nuts and seeds
  • Consume foodsÿhigh in fibre. This can be found in beans, pulses, fruit and vegetables, oats, and wholewheat products, such as bread, pasta and rice
  • Drink plenty of fluid – at least two litres daily, such as water or herbal teas

Foods to be avoided
  • Limit amounts of foods high in fats and sugars. Limit saturated fat that is found in animal products, such as butter, ghee, cheese, meat, cakes, biscuits and pastries.

Yoga and Exercise

Regular exercise reduces cholesterol in the blood tissues, which can lead to gallbladder problems. Relatively modest amount of physical activity up to 30 minutes a day, five days a week has a significant effect on lowering a persons risk of developing gallstones.

Yoga asanas used to cure gallbladder stones include:
  • Sarvangasana or shoulder stand
  • Shalabasana or locust pose
  • Dhanurasana or Bow pose
  • Bhujangasana or cobra pose

Music and Meditation

Practice mindfulness meditation- focus on a single thing happening in the moment, such as breathing, for a set period of time, generally at least 15 or 20 minutes.

Home Remedies

  • Drink six to eight glasses of water a day to keep the bile in your gallbladder fluid and help you digest and absorb fat
  • If you need to lose weight, do so slowly (crash dieting can lead to gallstone formation)
