Food and Nutrition
Foods to be taken- During infection eat in moderation, with an emphasis on whole grains, beans, lentils, lightly cooked vegetables, soups, and cold-pressed oils
- Include cayenne pepper, garlic, onion, and horseradish in your soups and meals, to help dissolve and eliminate excess mucus
- Drink plenty of pure quality water
- Avoid mucus-forming foods such as, flour products, eggs, chocolate, fried and processed foods, sugar and dairy products, caffeine, and alcohol
Yoga and Exercise
Depending on how you feel, mild to moderate exercises can be done, if you have no feverYoga poses and breathing exercises (pranayama – watch video ) can be good alternative treatments for sinus problems because they can relax the body and mind, improve breathing and circulation and help the body heal.

Home Remedies
- Apply a warm, moist washcloth to your face several times a day
- Drink plenty of fluids to thin the mucus
- Inhale steam 2 – 4 times per day
- Spray with over the counter nasal saline several times per day
- Use a humidifier
- Use a Neti pot to flush the sinuses. Add noniodized salt and warm sterile (not tap) water to the pot. Mix it well, place the spout in one nostril, lean over the sink, and gently flush out allergens and mucus. If you are really clogged, try using it after a hot shower.
