Dysuria: Symptom and Causes

Symptoms

Symptoms of painful urination can vary between men and women, but both genders usually experience it as a burning, stinging, or itching feeling.
People who have pain with urination also may have the urge to urinate more often.

Causes

Infection of the urinary tract (urethra, bladder, or kidneys) is the most common cause of dysuria. Other causes may be sexually transmitted disease, a non-cancerous or cancerous bladder tumor, or the side effect of medications.
