What is Raynauds Phenomenon?
Raynauds phenomenon, also known as Raynauds syndrome or disease, is a disorder of blood circulation in the fingers and toes (and less commonly of the ears and nose). It causes the blood vessels to narrow when you are cold or feeling stressed. When this happens, blood can not get to the surface of the skin and the affected areas turn white and blue.Women are more likely to have Raynauds disease. It is also more common in people who live in colder climates.
There are two types of Raynauds.
Primary- when the condition develops by itself (this is the most common type)
Secondary- when it develops in association with another health condition
Diagnosis
The condition is diagnosed by following:- A complete medical history
- Physical examination
- Blood tests
- Examining fingernail tissue with a microscope
