What is Thyroiditis?
Thyroiditis is the medical term for inflammation (swelling) of the thyroid gland, which can either cause abnormally low or high levels of thyroid hormones in the blood.
Thyroid is a gland in the front of your neck that controls your metabolism by releasing a variety of hormones.
Recovery Time
The condition should improve on its own. However, the illness may last for months. Long-term or severe complications do not usually occur.
Diagnosis
The most common and helpful way to diagnose thyroiditis is first for a physician to palpate the thyroid gland during a physical examination.
