Thyroiditis: Treatment, Diet and Home Remedies

Food and Nutrition

Foods to be taken
  • Nutrients rich in iodine, selenium, zinc, magnesium and vitamin A are all responsible for the body’s ability to manufacture thyroid hormones.
  • Selenium can be found in Brazil nuts, cod and mustard seeds
  • Pumpkin and sesame seeds are good sources of both magnesium
  • Vitamin A can be found in foods like carrots, sweet potatoes and cod liver oil
  • Foods high in antioxidants like blueberries, cherries, tomatoes, squash and bell peppers
  • Omega-3 fatty acids found in cold-water fish like salmon and cod can help to reduce inflammation and support immunity, both important for thyroid disorders.
  • Vitamin B12 rich foods like milk, poultry, fish, beans, cheese, eggs, and nuts
  • Foods that contain some vitamin D include fatty fish, milk, dairy, eggs, and mushrooms
Foods to be avoided
