Prevention Tips

Adjust your keyboard so that you do not have to bend your wrist upward while typing
  • Take frequent breaks from activities that require wrist movement
  • Limit alcohol
  • Lose weight if you are overweight
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Build bone strength by nutrient rich diet
  • Prevent falls
  • Use protective gear for athletic activities
  • Use mousepads, typing pads, split keyboards, and wrist splints (braces) designed to relieve wrist pain

Watch Out

  • Swelling, redness or stiffness in one or both wrists
  • Numbness, tingling, or weakness in the wrist, hand, or fingers with pain

When to See Doctor

Consult a doctor if you experience symptoms like:
  • Inability to carry objects or use the arm
  • Injury that causes deformity of the joint
  • Wrist pain that occurs at night or while resting
  • Wrist pain that persists beyond a few days
  • Inability to straighten or flex the joint
  • Swelling or significant bruising around the joint or forearm
  • Signs of an infection, including fever, redness, warmth
