Basal Metabolic Index (BMI)
The body mass index (BMI) or Quetelet index is a value derived from the mass (weight) and height of an individual. The BMI is defined as the body mass in kilograms divided by the square of the body height in meters. It is most common height weight chart used by healthcare providers. The primary purpose is to determine whether you’re within a normal weight range for your height, or if you’re underweight or overweight.- 18.5 or less: underweight
- 18.5 to 24.9: healthy weight range
- 25.0 to 29.9: overweight
- 30.0 or higher: obese
