Azathioprine lowers your body’s immune system. The immune system helps your body fight infections. The immune system can also fight or "reject" a transplanted organ such as a liver or kidney. This is because the immune system treats the new organ as an invader.Azathioprine is used to prevent your body from rejecting a transplanted kidney. It is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.Azathioprine is an immunosuppressant. It reduces the action of body’s own defense system (the immune system) and prevents rejection of the transplanted organ. It also blocks the action of certain chemical messengers that are responsible for inflammation, swelling, and redness associated with certain joint diseases.

ARETHA 50MG TAB is generally taken With Food.Precautions for ARETHA 50MG TAB and its Constituents
- Your doctor has prescribed Azathioprine to stop the body from rejecting a transplanted organ (e.g. kidney, heart or liver).
- Azathioprine also relieves joint pain and inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis.
- You may have to take additional medications along with Azathioprine for better relief of symptoms. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to conceive or breastfeeding.
- Avoid contact with people who have cold, flu or other contagious illness.
- Notify your doctor if you have any signs of infection such as a fever or sore throat.
- Follow all directions on your prescription label.
- Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results.
- Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
- Take azathioprine with food to lessen stomach upset.
