CILAMIN 250MG CAP is composed of: PENICILLAMINE (250.0 MG)

Penicillamine is a chelating (KEE-late-ing) agent that binds to excess copper and removes it from the bloodstream. In certain conditions, excess copper can build up in the bloodstream, leading to tissue damage throughout the body. Penicillamine is used to remove excess copper in people with an inherited condition called Wilson’s disease. Penicillamine is also used to reduce urine levels of an amino acid called cysteine, which can cause stones to form in the kidneys and bladder in people with an inherited condition called cystinuria. Penicillamine is also used to treat severe rheumatoid arthritis after other medicines have been tried without success. Penicillamine is not approved to treat juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

Precautions for CILAMIN 250MG CAP and its Constituents


Regularly monitor kidney and liver function (every 6 month). Monitor body temperature twice weekly during 1st month of therapy, then every 2 wk for 5 month, then monthly. Counsel patient to report sore throat, fever, infection, non-specific illness, unexplained bleeding or bruising, mouth ulcers or rashes. In cyst in urine, maintain adequate fluid intake (1 pint of fluid before bed and 1 pint of fluid during night). Caution should be exercised in patients who have had previous adverse reactions to gold.
