Overview
FEMILON TAB is a Schedule H drug.FEMILON TAB is composed of: DESOGESTREL (0.15 MG), ESTRADIOL (0.02 MG)
Ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel is a combination birth control pill containing female hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). This medicine also causes changes in your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.Ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel is used to prevent pregnancyDesogestrel is used in contraception.It also may work by changing the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent the development of a pregnancy.
Estradiol is a form of estrogen, a female sex hormone that regulates many processes in the body.Estradiol is used to treat menopause symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal changes, and to prevent osteoporosis (bone loss) in menopausal women.Estradiol is used for hormone replacement therapy and post menopausal osteoporosis.Estradiol is a form of estrogen, a female sex hormone produced by the ovaries. It acts by replacing the natural hormone in the body when the latter is deficient.

Precautions for FEMILON TAB and its Constituents
- Don’t start with just any tablet when starting a new pack of desogestrel. Always take it from the top row marked for that day.
- If you are not using hormonal contraception at present (or in the past month) take your first pack of desogestrel on the first day of your period.
- If you are changing from a combined pill (COC), vaginal ring, or transdermal patch start desogestrel at the latest the day following any break free period or on the day itself if you had no break free period. Use an additional barrier method of contraception for the first 7 days of tablet-taking if you had a break free period.
- You can start desogestrel, between 21 to 28 days after the birth of your baby. If you start later, you need to use an additional barrier method of contraception until first 7 days of tablet-taking.
- If you are less than 12 hours late in taking your next dose or if you vomit, or use medical charcoal within 3 – 4 hours or have severe diarrhea, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember and take the next one at the usual time. If you are more than 12 hours late, you may need to use emergency contraception as per doctor’s advice.
- Don’t miss one or more tablets in the very first week of tablet-intake and had intercourse in the week before missing the tablets, you may fall pregnant.
- Do not take desogestrel, if you are allergic to desogestrel or any of the ingredients of this medicine.
- Avoid taking desogestrel, if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant.
- Do not take desogestrel, if you have a thrombosis (blood clot in a blood vessel); (e.g. of the legs [deep venous thrombosis] or the lungs [pulmonary embolism]); or any unexplained vaginal bleeding.

grapefruit juice is unlikely to affect the overall safety profile of ethinyl estradiol.
- Do not use estradiol patches over breast stop taking estradiol and see a doctor immediately if you notice any of the following when taking estradiol:
- yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes (jaundice). rise in your blood pressure (symptoms may be headache, tiredness, dizziness).new onset migraine-like headaches.
- signs of a blood clot, such as: painful swelling and redness of the legs, sudden chest pain, difficulty in breathing.
- Do not consider estradiol alone as a contraceptive. It must be used with progestogen to provide contraceptive benefits.
- Consult your doctor if you have unusual vaginal bleeding while taking this drug, Immediately consult your doctor if you notice unexplained swelling and pain in your limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain, severe headache, or changes in vision. This medicine should not be taken for a very long period.Consult your doctor from time to time to check if you still need it.
- Do not smoke or use tobacco. Estrogens combined with smoking further increases your risk of stroke, blood clots, high blood pressure, and heart attack, especially in women older than 35.
- Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.If you are nearsighted or wear contact lenses, you may develop vision problems or trouble wearing your contact lenses.
