Lanthanum prevents the body from absorbing phosphate, allowing it to be removed from the body,lowers the phosphate levels in the blood in those with kidney disease. Chew tablets before swallowing. Lanthanum Carbonate inhibits the absorption of phosphate from the intestine and lower the phosphate levels in the blood.Lanthanum is a natural mineral that works by binding to phosphate in the foods you eat. The phosphate then passes out of your body in your stool.

- You should not use lanthanum carbonate if you have a bowel obstruction or severe constipation.
- You should not use lanthanum carbonate if you are allergic to it.
- Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results.
- Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.Take lanthanum carbonate with food or immediately after eating.
- The chewable tablet should be chewed completely before you swallow it. Do not swallow whole. While using lanthanum carbonate, you may need frequent blood tests.
- Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
- It may cause dizziness, drowsiness. Do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
- Do not take non-prescription antacids while taking lanthanum carbonate
