Pioglitazone is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels.Pioglitazone is for people with type 2 diabetes. Pioglitazone is not for treating type 1 diabetes.It is used along with diet and exercise. It may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines. It lowers blood sugar by reducing insulin resistance.It works by increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin, a natural substance that helps control blood sugar levels.


Atorvastatin (Lipitor) is a member of the drug class known as statins. It is used for lowering cholesterol. Atorvastatin is a competitive inhibitor of hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase.Atorvastatin acts primarily in the liver.  Decreased hepatic cholesterol levels increases hepatic uptake of cholesterol and reduces plasma cholesterol levels.Atorvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol, and to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart complications in people with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors.

Precautions for PIAT 30MG/10MG TAB and its Constituents


  • You should not use this medicine if you have severe or uncontrolled heart failure, active bladder cancer, or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • Pioglitazone is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
  • You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to pioglitazone.
  • Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results.
  • Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.Pioglitazone is usually taken once daily. You may take the medicine with or without food.
  • Your blood sugar will need to be checked often, and you may need other blood tests at your doctor’s office.
  • Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol. It lowers blood sugar and may interfere with your diabetes treatment.You should continue to exercise regularly, eat a healthy diet, and take your other diabetes medicines along with Pioglitazone.
  • Full effect may be visible after several weeks of starting Pioglitazone.
  • May not be suitable for patients with a history of heart failure or bladder cancer.

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of Crohn’s disease, bruising, heart, liver or kidney disease, gastrointestinal disease, blood clotting problems, systemic lupus erythematosus, elderly, during pregnancy, alcohol-dependent patients, and breastfeeding. It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

PIOGLITAZONE over-dosage can result in: Eyes Blurred Vision, Slurred Speech, Body Excessive Sweating, Confusion, Abdomen Pain, Seizures (uncontrollable Jerking Of Limbs)

PIOGLITAZONE : Respiratory Infection, Vision Problems, Head Headache, Runny Nose, Throat Soreness, Sneezing, Fatigue (tiredness), Legs Pain, Arms Pain, Pale Skin, Difficulty Breathing
ATORVASTATIN : Polyarthralgia, Urinary Tract Infection, Insomnia, Myalgia, Skin Rash, Hives, Nausea, Loose Motion, Body Muscle Cramps Or Spasms (painful), Cough, Difficulty Swallowing, Dizziness, Rapid Heart Rate (pulse), Fever, Wheezing, Tightness

PIOGLITAZONE : Muscle Pain, Stomach Pain, Dry Skin, Hypoglycemia, Bladder Cancer, Heart Failure, Chest Pain, Decreased Urination, Slow Or Irregular Breathing, Irregular Heartbeat, Face Swelling, Fingers Swelling, Feet Swelling, Weight Gain, Dry Mouth, Increased Thirst, Fruity Odor On Breath, Frequent Urination, Weight Loss (unintentional)

Food Interactions



Avoid drinking alcohol. It can raise triglyceride levels and may increase your risk of liver damage.Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with atorvastatin and lead to potentially dangerous effects.
