Piperazine is used in the treatment of worm infections. Piperazine belongs to class of drugs called anthelmintic. It works by paralyzing the worms and making them to pass in the stool. It is effective against the intestinal nematodes roundworm (Ascaris lumbricoides), pinworm and threadworm (Enterobius vermicularis). Piperazine produces a neuromuscular block leads to muscle paralysis of the worms which are consequently dislodged and expelled in the faeces.

Precautions for PIPERAZINE CITRATE 750MG SYP and its Constituents

• Continuous and repeated treatment with piperazine in children should be avoided.
• It should also be avoided in pregnancy, though it can be given if it is extremely necessary and no other option is available.
• Cautious use of piperazine in children is required because of the neurotoxic effects.
• In treating enterobiasis all the household members are to be treated simultaneously.
• Washing all nightdresses and bed clothes should be done to prevent reinfection.Should nto be given to patients allergic to piperazine or any of its ingredients.
• Should not be given to patients who are suffering from kidney failure or epileptics (fits).
