Epinastine is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body.Epinastine ophthalmic (for the eyes) is used to prevent itching of the eyes caused by allergies.Epinastine ophthalmic should not be used to treat eye irritation or discomfort caused by wearing contact lenses.Epinastine is an antihistaminic medication. It treats allergy symptoms such as such as itching, swelling, and rashes by blocking the effects of a chemical messenger (histamine) in the body.

Precautions for RELESTAT 0.05%W/V EYE DPS and its Constituents
- Your doctor has prescribed Epinastine to treat inflammation (redness and swelling) due to allergies of the eye.
- It treats short-term or sudden allergic reactions in the eye.
- Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop.
- Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.
- Stinging sensation may occur for 1-2 mins. Notify your doctor if it persists for longer.
- Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
- Do not use this medication while wearing contact lenses.
- Epinastine ophthalmic may contain a preservative that can discolor soft contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after using epinastine before putting your contact lenses in.
- You should not use epinastine ophthalmic if you have a bacterial, viral, or fungal infection in the eye, unless you are also using an anti-infective medicine.
- Use exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
- Follow the directions on your prescription label.
- Wash your hands before using eye medication.
