Milrinone is a vasodilator that works by relaxing the muscles in your blood vessels to help them dilate (widen). This lowers blood pressure and allows blood to flow more easily through your veins and arteries.It increases the pumping strength of the heart.It is mixed with dextrose, a type of sugar, before it is given. If you have high blood sugar (diabetes) or have low blood sugar, tell your doctor.

- Follow your doctor’s instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity.It may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
- The medicine cannot be given to children in case of an unstable heart rhythm and blood pressure.
- Consult your doctor if you are taking digoxin, diuretics,medications used to treat high blood pressure or chest pain (angina).Take precautions while using milrinone as it may decrease blood pressure (hypotension).
- Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
