RIFA I 6 E KIT is a Schedule H antibiotic.

RIFA I 6 E KIT is composed of: ETHAMBUTOL HYDROCHLORIDE (800.0 MG), RIFAMPICIN (450.0 MG), ISONIAZID (300.0 MG), VITAMIN B6 (PYRIDOXINE) (10.0 MG)

Ethambutol is an antibiotic that prevents growth of the tuberculous bacteria in the body.It stops the growth of TB cells. Ethambutol is used with other medications to treat tuberculosis.This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections. Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.

Rifampicin is an antibiotic. It works by inactivating a bacterial enzyme (RNA-polymerase) which is required by bacteria to make essential proteins and to reproduce. Rifampicin is used in the treatment of tuberculosis and leprosy.
Isoniazid is an antibiotic that fights bacteria. Isoniazid is used to treat and to prevent tuberculosis (TB). You may need to take other TB medicines in combination with isoniazid. When treating active TB, isoniazid must be used with other TB medicines. Tuberculosis can become resistant to treatment if isoniazid is used alone.

Precautions for RIFA I 6 E KIT and its Constituents


  • You should not use ethambutol if you are allergic to it.
  • You may not be able to take ethambutol if you cannot recognize or report any changes in your vision.
  • Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results.
  • Do not take ethambutol in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever used tuberculosis medicine before. Your dose may be different if you have been treated for tuberculosis in the past.
  • Ethambutol may be taken with food if it upsets your stomach.
  • Your blood cells, kidney function, and liver function may also need to be checked.
  • Use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics.
  • Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
  • Avoid taking an antacid containing aluminum hydroxide within 4 hours after you take ethambutol.
  • It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication. Avoid long-term use of this medication.
  • Ethambutol may cause live bacterial vaccines to not work as well. Do not have any immunizations/vaccinations while using this medication.


It is best taken on an empty stomach. If you get an upset stomach, try taking it with small portions of food. Your urine, tears and other secretions may become orange-red in colour. Avoid using contact lenses since they may become discolored. Avoid taking hormone-based birth control methods as Rifampicin may decrease their effectiveness.
Caution should be exercised in patients with history of diabetes, nerve problems (because of the increased incidence of peripheral neuropathy with Isoniazid), kidney, HIV, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Avoid alcohol consumption. Avoid consuming tyramine containing food items such as cheese, red wine, beer, certain meats and sausages, liver, sour cream. Otherwise it may cause high blood pressure. Monitor liver function and blood sugar level regularly while taking this medication.

ISONIAZID over-dosage can result in: Vomit, Dizziness, Drowsiness, Slurred Speech, Eyes Blurred Vision, Hallucinations, Difficulty Breathing, Increased Thirst, Frequent Urination, Fruity Odor On Breath
