Lapatinib is a cancer medicine that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Lapatinib is used to treat a certain type of hormone-related breast cancer that has progressed or spread after treatment with other cancer medicines. In postmenopausal women, lapatinib is given in combination with a hormonal medicine called letrozole. In others, lapatinib is given together with a cancer medicine called capecitabine.

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of liver, lung, heart disease, irregular heartbeat, low blood electrolyte levels, bone marrow depression, any allergy, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Monitor liver function, heart function, and complete blood cell counts regularly while taking this medication.
