Atorvastatin (Lipitor) is a member of the drug class known as statins. It is used for lowering cholesterol. Atorvastatin is a competitive inhibitor of hydroxymethylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase.Atorvastatin acts primarily in the liver.  Decreased hepatic cholesterol levels increases hepatic uptake of cholesterol and reduces plasma cholesterol levels.Atorvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol, and to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack, or other heart complications in people with type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, or other risk factors.
Metformin is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels.Metformin is used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.It works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying sugar (glucose) absorption from intestines and increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin.

XMETOR TAB is generally taken With Food.

Precautions


Caution should be exercised in patients with history of Crohn’s disease, bruising, heart, liver or kidney disease, gastrointestinal disease, blood clotting problems, systemic lupus erythematosus, elderly, during pregnancy, alcohol-dependent patients, and breastfeeding. It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
  • You should not use metformin if you have severe kidney disease or diabetic ketoacidosis.
  • You should not use metformin if you are allergic to it.
  • Take metformin exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
  • Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
  • Take metformin with a meal.
  • Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet. Swallow the tablet whole.
  • Your blood sugar will need to be checked often, and you may need other blood tests at your doctor’s office.
  • Your doctor may have you take extra vitamin B12 while you are taking this medicine.
  • It may lead to dehydration; drink plenty of water to avoid this problem.
  • Avoid excess dosage.

METFORMIN : Diarrhoea, Joint Pain, Skin Rash, Anxiety, Depression, Night Terrors, Seizure, Change In Stools, Unusual Taste In Mouth, Abdomen Discomfort, Cough, Fever, Chills, Body Discomfort, Lower Back Pain, Drowsiness, Chest Discomfort, Confusion, Pale Skin, Labored Breathing, Head Headache, Body Excessive Sweating, Slurred Speech, Shortness Of Breath, Fatigue (tiredness), Body Loss Of Movement, Runny Nose, Sneezing

ATORVASTATIN : Eyes Yellow Eyes, Dark Colored (brown) Urine, Abdomen Pain, Nausea, Vomit
METFORMIN : Indigestion, Heartburn, Breathlessness, Eyes Blurred Vision, Rapid Breathing, Pain With Urination, Belching, Abdomen Bloating Or Fullness, Increased Passing Gas, Loss Of Appetite, Abdomen Upset Stomach

ATORVASTATIN : Skin Rash, Hives, Body Itching, Face Swelling
METFORMIN : Difficulty Concentrating, Unusual Behavior, Restless (tossing And Turning) Sleep

Food Interactions


Avoid drinking alcohol. It can raise triglyceride levels and may increase your risk of liver damage.Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with atorvastatin and lead to potentially dangerous effects.
