Overview
AMPHOTERICIN B is a Schedule H antibiotic.It is not for use in treating a minor fungal infection such as a yeast infection of the mouth, esophagus, or vagina. Amphotericin B is used in the treatment of serious fungal infections and kala-azar. Amphotericin B is an antifungal medicine. It kills fungus by destroying the fungal cell membrane.

Precautions
- Before you take amphotericin B, inform your doctor if you suffer from diabetes, liver/kidney problem or are on dialysis or have low potassium level in blood.
- You should monitor your condition through regular laboratory evaluation of potassium, magnesium as well as renal, hepatic and hematopoietic function.
- Take precautions as amphotericin B may reduce the ability to drive or operate machinery.Tell your doctor if you are or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
- Do not use amphotericin B in larger amounts than recommended. An overdose can cause death.
- You should not receive this medicine if you are allergic to any formulation of amphotericin B (Abelcet, AmBisome, Amphocin, Amphotec, or Fungizone).
- The medicine must be given slowly through an IV infusion, and can take from 2 to 6 hours to complete.Amphotericin B may need to be given for up to several weeks or months, depending on the infection being treated.
- While receiving amphotericin B, you may need frequent blood tests.
- Use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared.
