Overview
AZACITIDINE is an Over-the-counter (OTC) drug.Azacitidine is a cancer medicine that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Azacitidine is used to treat certain types of bone marrow cancers and blood cell disorders. This medication is an antineoplastic agent, prescribed for blood cancer.Treatment should usually be given for at least four cycles. Azacitidine is a prescription medication used to treat myelodysplastic syndrome. The bone marrow does not make enough healthy blood cells in this type of condition. Azacitidine belongs to a group of drugs called demethylation agents, which work by helping the bone marrow to produce normal blood cells and by killing abnormal cells in the bone marrow.

How Do I Take It?
Route of Administration: IV (Intravenous)Precautions
- Azacitidine can harm an unborn baby. Both men and women using this medicine should use birth control to prevent pregnancy. The use of this medicine by either parent may cause birth defects.
- If you are a woman, keep using birth control for at least 6 months after your last dose of azacitidine. If you are a man, keep using birth control for at least 3 months after your last dose. Tell your doctor right away if a pregnancy occurs while either the mother or the father is using this medicine.
- It is not known whether azacitidine passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not breast-feed while using azacitidine and for at least 1 week after your last dose.
- Before using azacitidine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients (such as mannitol), which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
- Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of kidney disease, liver disease.
- Do not have immunizations/vaccinations without the consent of your doctor, and avoid contact with people who have recently received oral polio vaccine or flu vaccine inhaled through the nose. Wash your hands well to prevent the spread of infections.
- To lower your risk of getting cut, bruised, or injured, use caution with sharp objects like razors and nail cutters, and avoid activities such as contact sports.
- This drug may make you dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit alcoholic beverages.

It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Because of the possible risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended.
