ILOPROST

Overview

ILOPROST is a Schedule H drug.
Iloprost is a prescription medication used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. Iloprost belongs to a group of drugs called vasodilators. These work by relaxing blood vessels in the body, including the lungs. This medication comes as a solution to be used in a nebulizer and inhaled by mouth. It is usually used 6 to 9 times a day, during the hours you are awake. Iloprost should not be used more often than every 2 hours.

Precautions

  • It should not be used over eyes or skin.
  • Avoid repeated dose within two hours of previous dose.
  • It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
  • Caution should be exercised in patients with history of lung disease, asthma, liver or kidney disease, low blood pressure, blood-clotting problems, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Before using iloprost, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
  • Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of low blood pressure, liver problems, kidney problems, bleeding problems, other breathing problems (such as asthma).
  • During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Symptoms of Overdosage

ILOPROST over-dosage can result in: Dizziness, Fainting
