Acebutolol is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and heart rhythm disorders. Acebutolol is a beta-blocker. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). It helps by relaxing the narrowed blood vessels, makes it wider and thereby allows the blood to flow very easily resulting in low blood pressure.

  • This drug may make you dizzy. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness until you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages.
  • Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).
  • During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Babies born to mothers taking this drug during pregnancy may have a low birth weight and require monitoring for problems such as low blood pressure and slow heartbeat. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • This drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
