RUFINAMIDE

Overview

RUFINAMIDE is a Schedule H drug.
This medication is an anticonvulsant, prescribed for seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome in children 4 years and older and adults. It works by decreasing abnormal excitement in the brain. Rufinamide is thought to work by acting on the sodium channels in the brain that carry excessive electrical charges that may cause seizures.

Precautions

  • You should not use this medicine if you have a severe liver disease, or a genetic heart rhythm disorder called "Short QT syndrome."
  • Do not stop using rufinamide suddenly or you may have increased seizures.
  • You should not use rufinamide if you are allergic to it.
  • Do not start or stop taking seizure medication during pregnancy without your doctor’s advice. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results.
  • Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
  • The rufinamide tablet may be swallowed whole, crushed, or cut in half.
  • Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose.
  • Wear a medical alert tag or carry an ID card stating that you take rufinamide. Any medical care provider who treats you should know that you take seizure medication.
  • Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine will affect you.

RUFINAMIDE : Heartburn, Indigestion, Itchy Skin, Joint Pain, Muscle Pain, Diarrhoea, Head Headache, Dizziness, Drowsiness, Nausea, Vomit, Fatigue (tiredness), Hands Shaking, Black (tar) Colored Stools, Chest Pain, Chills, Cough, Pain With Urination, Lightheadedness, Nervousness, Fever, Body Discomfort, Eyes Pain, Loss Of Appetite, Spinning Sensation, Restless Or Irritability, Mouth Soreness, Throat Soreness, Runny Nose, Difficulty Sleeping, Back Pain, Belching, Hearing Loss, Decreased Appetite, Ears Drainage Or Pus, Ears Pain, Abdomen Discomfort, Upper Abdomen Pain
