Methsuximide is an anti-epileptic medication, also called an anticonvulsant. Methsuximide is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat absence seizures (also called "petit mal" seizures) in adults and children.

Route of Administration: Oral

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of blood dyscrasias, liver or kidney problems, lupus, mental illness, kidney or liver disease, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It may cause dizziness, drowsiness or blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication. Patient may develop with increased risk of suicidal thoughts, watch them carefully. Monitor complete blood cell counts, liver or kidney function regularly while taking this medication.

Symptoms of Overdosage

METHSUXIMIDE over-dosage can result in: Nausea, Vomit, Drowsiness, Slow Or Irregular Breathing

METHSUXIMIDE : Diarrhoea, Dizziness, Abdomen Pain, Loss Of Appetite, Weight Loss (unintentional), Head Headache, Loss Of Coordination

Rare Side-Effects

METHSUXIMIDE : Skin Rash, Difficulty Breathing, Throat Soreness, Fever, Fatigue (tiredness), Easy Bruising, Rapid Breathing, Face Swelling

METHSUXIMIDE can interfere with: Bone Marrow Suppression, Acute Renal Failure, Acute Liver Failure, Lupus Erythematosus, Depression, Psychosis
