Overview
DABIGATRAN ETEXILATE is a Schedule H drug.Dabigatran is a prescription medication, is an anticoagulant (thrombin inhibitor) used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in people who have a medical condition called atrial fibrillation. It is also used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in some patients as well as prevent blood clots that travel throughout the body in patients who have been treated for these type of blood clots.

How Do I Take It?
Route of Administration: OralPrecautions
- Avoid activities that may increase your risk of bleeding or injury. Use extra care to prevent bleeding while shaving or brushing your teeth.
- Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of bleeding in your stomach or intestines.
- Take this medicine with a full glass of water. You may take dabigatran with or without food. Do not crush, chew, break, or open a dabigatran capsule. Swallow the pill whole.
- Do not stop taking dabigatran without your doctor’s advice. Stopping the medication can increase your risk of stroke.
- Caution should be exercised in patients with history of stomach bleeding, kidney disease, who are taking other medications, any allergy, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Before taking dabigatran, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
- This medication may cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol while using this medicine may increase your risk for stomach bleeding. Limit alcoholic beverages.
- Older adults may be at greater risk for bleeding while using this drug.
- During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
- It is unknown if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
