TIOPRONIN

Overview

TIOPRONIN is a Schedule H drug.
This medication is a chelating agent, prescribed for preventing kidney stone formation.  It works by removing extra cystine from the urine. This medication is usually used only after other methods are not successful in preventing kidney stones,when patients cannot take the usual medication (d-penicillamine) for cystinuria.

How Do I Take It?

TIOPRONIN is generally taken Before Food.
Route of Administration: Oral

Precautions

  • You should not use Tiopronin,if you are allergic to it.
  • You may have more chance of getting an infection. Wash hands often. Stay away from people with infections, colds, or flu.You may bleed more easily. Be careful and avoid injury. Use a soft toothbrush and an electric razor.
  • Have blood work checked as you have been told by the doctor. Talk with the doctor.
  • Have your urine checked as you have been told by your doctor.
  • Use tiopronin as ordered by your doctor.
  • Take on an empty stomach. Take 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.
  • Follow the diet plan that your doctor told you about.
  • Drink 2 glasses with each meal and at bedtime. You may wake up at night to urinate; if you do, drink 2 more glasses before returning to bed.
  • Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.
