LEVOTHYROXINE is a Schedule G drug.
Levothyroxine is a thyroid medicine that replaces a hormone normally produced by your thyroid gland to regulate the body’s energy and metabolism.Levothyroxine is given when the thyroid does not produce enough of this hormone on its own.Levothyroxine is a synthetic version of a hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It works by replacing the thyroid hormones that your thyroid gland cannot produce and relieves the symptoms of hypothyroidism.

How Do I Take It?

LEVOTHYROXINE is generally taken Before Food.
Route of Administration: Oral

Precautions

  • Levothyroxine should not be used to treat obesity or weight problems.
  • Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice.Take levothyroxine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. Use the medicine exactly as directed.
  • Levothyroxine works best if you take it on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before breakfast.
  • Follow your doctor’s dosing instructions and try to take the medicine at the same time each day.Swallow the tablet or capsule whole, with a full glass (8 ounces) of water. The tablet may dissolve very quickly and could swell in your throat.
  • Levothyroxine doses are based on weight in children. Your dose needs may change if you gain or lose weight.
  • You may need frequent medical tests.
  • Do not share this medicine with another person, even if they have the same symptoms you have.
  • Do not take two doses at one time.It may take 6 to 8 weeks to get the full effect.
  • For most people,Levothyroxine is a lifelong medication. Do not discontinue it without first discussing with your doctor.
  • Leave a gap of at least 4 hours before taking any antacids, calcium or iron supplements, and multivitamins, as these may interfere with the effect of the medicine.
  • Inform your doctor before changing the brand of  Levothyroxine as all brands may not have the same effect.

Symptoms of Overdosage

LEVOTHYROXINE over-dosage can result in: Nervousness, Head Headache, Legs Muscle Cramps Or Spasms (painful), Chest Pain, Shortness Of Breath, Pounding Heart (pulse), Confusion, Loss Of Coordination, Slurred Speech, Disorientation

LEVOTHYROXINE : Female Infertility, Diarrhoea, Skin Rash, Itchy Skin, Head Headache, Difficulty Sleeping, Legs Muscle Cramps Or Spasms (painful), Nervousness, Hair Loss, Decreased Urination, Chest Discomfort, Labored Breathing, Difficulty Swallowing, Fever, Irregular Heartbeat, Fatigue (tiredness), Slow Or Irregular Breathing, Restless Or Irritability, Arms Discomfort, Nausea, Jaws Discomfort, Back Pain, Eyes Swelling, Face Swelling, Swollen Lips, Chest Pain, Body Excessive Sweating, Abdomen Stomach Cramps, Decreased Appetite, Excessive Crying, Body Discomfort, Hallucinations, Mood Swings, Weight Gain
