NITISINONE

Overview

NITISINONE is a Schedule H drug.
Nitisinone works by preventing the body from breaking down an amino acid called tyrosine and by keeping other toxic substances from building up and causing harm to your liver or kidneys.This medication is a 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase inhibitor, prescribed for hereditary tyrosinemia type 1 (HT-1) (rare genetic metabolic disorder).  It works by blocking the breakdown of tyrosine.

Precautions

  • During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
  • Caution should be exercised in patients with history of metabolic disorder, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Follow proper diet program as per your healthcare provider’s advice.
  • Monitor sugar level regularly for diabetic patients during the treatment.
  • Monitor blood cell counts, vision tests, liver function tests and blood phosphate or tyrosine levels regularly while taking this medication.
